Recent Terra images of the low water levels in the Ashokan Reservoir in the Catskill Mountains illustrate the current drought emergency facing residents of the New York City metropolitan area. News: NASA Images Confirm What New Yorkers Already Know: It's Dry. "Whether you look at the glass as half empty or half full, reservoirs at 52 percent of capacity for a major metropolitan area spell trouble." [NASA's Earth Observatory] The EPA did a big multi-decade landcover classificationon on this region using remotely sensed data two years ago.
