Bus Drivers and Cell Phones

Paulette told me that she's seeing more bus drivers talking on cell phones while they drive their buses, a disturbing trend, to say the least. I don't ride that often, but even I've noticed this, and feel very uncomfortable with it. A quick search on the web finds a few laws in various regions of the world concerning *school* bus drivers, but its up to city transit agencies to set policies for their employees. People are starting to be concerned. General legislative efforts have failed to pass so far:

Efforts around the country to pass laws curbing the use of hand-held cell phones in cars, public transit and school buses have met with little success. Until now, none of the 50 states restricts phone use by drivers, although 114 different bills on the subject have been introduced in 41 states this year, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

One common thread: All were opposed by cell-phone industry lobbyists.

I've sent a question to the SF MUNI, since I couldn't find anything on their website. let's see what their response is...
