What a beautiful day. It rained last night and into the early morning. When I woke up at 7:30, the vertical blinds were flapping in the light breeze from the open window and I could hear the rain splattering on the sidewalk below. The rain let up, and by the time I logged on to buy tickets for The Who in July, the sun was breaking through the clouds, and the sky was a shining blue. I wanted to do some work today, but before I did I wanted to go to the record store get a Kasey Chambers album so that I could listen to it as I'm coding away. It turns out that Hollywood was having its first annual Lunar New Year parade, and so I decided to take a bit of a detour. Lots of groups were represented -- businesses, student groups, the International Buddhist Progress Society, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Pac Islander, Pilipino cultural groups, several high school marching bands (Banning, Long Beach, and a particularly swinging drum and dance troupe from Compton), contingents from the LAFD, some folks from the local El Pollo Loco, city and state councilpeople, several actors and actresses, the 2002 Rose Queen, and lots of clowns on stilts. Even though the sun is out, it's still a bit brisk after the rain -- it's about 57 and the wind whips up every once in a while. Lots of people out -- families coming out specifically to see the parade, pierced and shorn young punks, the spillover crowd from the Ivar & Selma farmer's market that happens every Sunday, and the usual Hollywood detritus like me. I finally got to Amoeba after the parade and in addition to Chambers, I picked up a couple of CCR albums I hadn't heard. I've got Willy and the Poorboys on right now... window's open, sun's baking the bricks on the building across the way, keeping my studio lit in the middle of the afternoon. Do I have do work today? comment 3:18:30 PM |
