Senators propose recycling fees on new PCs [ZDNet, but saw it first on Slashdot.] I'm really happy about this. I always get so bummed seeing binfulls of old PCs every few months leaving the offices for some landfill somewhere. There are environmental costs to technology, and we've got to pay for them. While I don't know the details yet (emailing state Senators Sher and Romero right after this), anything to put some of the burden of consumer waste on the consumer is a good thing IMO. comment 10:59:43 AM |
Funny quote in today's NY Times, in an article about teen drinking: Phil Lynch, a spokesman for Brown-Forman Corp., whose products include Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskey, said, ``It looks like Mr. Califano and CASA have adopted Enron's accounting practices.''Still... it seems that teen drug abuse -- especially of alcohol -- continues to be a problem. The question I'd like to ask is: how can you deliver a moderated message about drug use and abuse that 1) doesn't lie and 2) ameliorates the worst effects, such as alcoholism and binge drinking? comment 9:47:16 AM |
