It seems that Dave Winer is predicting that we can make an end run around vendor lock in. I hope you're right Dave. XML standards are enabling this. Simon Phipps has pointed to this as the third degree of separation. Committment to standards == no vendor lock in. In fact vendors will end up having to compete for your business.
