2003 Denver Municipal Runoff Election

The Denver Post is running a column analyzing the effects of race and ethnicity in Tuesday's election. From the column, "And truth is, if there were as many Latinos as whites in Denver, Mares would've won. Hickenlooper's got two-thirds of the city cheering him on. Getting that other third will be tough. Perhaps as big a challenge as balancing the city budget."

2003 Denver Mayoral Transition

John Hickenlooper announced his top transition team yesterday, reports the Rocky Mountain News. From the article, "Hickenlooper on Thursday named philanthropist John Huggins to lead his transition team. Named as co-chairs are Linda Alvarado, owner of Alvarado Construction, and former mayoral rival Penfield Tate, a bond attorney and former state lawmaker." Staying true to his promise to be open the Mayor-elect has published contact information for his transition team.

The Denver Post has two stories here and here.

The Post has a story this morning about the possible conflicts of interest that John Hickenlooper will face regarding his seven businesses. Says the Post, "As mayor, Hickenlooper will head city departments that oversee liquor licenses, restaurant inspections and even parking meter collections. Those departments will regulate and likely affect his businesses."
