2003 Denver Mayoral Transition
Mayor-elect Hickenlooper has time on his side for the transition says the Rocky Mountain News [July 1, 2003, "Hickenlooper has time on his side for transition"]. From the article, "So he (Hickenlooper) settled on a process that looked first at the city's departments and agencies, figuring out whether some should be retooled, and then at the qualities that should be sought in their managers." I like this idea. I think he tips the process towards bringing in newcomers to government. I think he'll flatten the hierarchy some.
Here's an article from the Rocky Mountain News [June 26, 2003, "Hickenlooper solicits ideas"] about Mayor-elect Hickenlooper soliciting ideas for running the city. From the article, "Baltimore is using it to create maps and charts showing everything from abandoned homes to areas marred by graffiti to city agencies where workers were often skipping shifts." That's the project I want to be on. Measure performance, reward workers, save dough, interoperate with all current and future systems, implement zero-based budgeting.
Here's a listing of the co-chairs for Mayor-elect Hickenlooper's transition team committees from the Rocky [June 24, 2003, "Hickenlooper's transition team"]. I noticed the name of Jerry Golley from AMI Visions. They did the Mayor-elect's website, a Gulchie award winner. I'm happy to see my classmate from North High, Rich Gonzales on the list. Last time I saw him he was firing up precinct workers for the Don Mares' campaign. Here's the coverage of the announcement from the Rocky Mountain News [June 24, 2003, "Transition leaders introduced"] and the Denver Post [June 24, 2003, "Mayor-elect unveils team to study city"].
Patricia Calhoun (Westword) is tickled pink that Mayor-elect Hickenlooper's transition team members will be welcomed with open arms now that Byron West has clarified an earlier e-mail to her staff at the Office of Television and Internet Services. Scroll to the bottom of her column from last week.
