2003 Mayoral Transition
Patricia Calhoun writes about the Inauguration Ceremony and the Mayor's first day on the job, along with presenting some of her memories of Mayor Hickenlooper in her column this week in Westword [July 24, 2003, "All Together, Now"].
Mayor Hickenlooper wants to overhaul the charter provisions on setting employee salaries. Here's a short article from the Rocky Mountain News [July 25, 2003, "City's wage plan is on the clock"] on the subject. The Rocky [July 25, 2003, "On Point, July 25"] is also running a short opinion piece praising the Mayor for cutting his own salary along with the salaries of appointees. Here's an article from the Denver Post [July 25, 2003, "City Council wrestling with proposal to change how Denver workers are paid"] on the subject. The Denver Post [July 25, 2003, "Bold move on Denver pay"] is running an editorial on pay cuts this morning. The editorial seems to indicate that city employees will have great influence over the changes and that our support of the initiative is necessary. Sorry to tell you this Post, but while there will be public input we won't have much of a voice in the changes. The voters will decide in November just as they did when the charter was amended to set raises based on salary surveys. The charter amendment will be drafted by the Mayor's staff and City Council.
