Denver November 2004 Election

The August 10th primary is just around the corner and the Denver Post is encouraging voters to get off their duffs, learn about the candidates and issues, and vote [July 18, 2004, "It's the semifinal round"]. Denver Democrats (and independents that declare for the Democrats) will pick Denver's next District Attorney. Members of both parties get to nominate a U.S. Senate candidate. In Denver we get to decide on circuses bringing animal acts into the city. Get ready to vote you crazy kids.

Here's a perspective on voting in the primary from the Denver Post [July 18, 2004, "Democracy that counts"]. From the article, "One more thing: A new law requires that you show identification at your polling place. A driver's license, other government I.D. or even a utility bill with your address on it will do. Your Social Security card won't be accepted, however."

Sample ballots for Denver County can be dowloaded here. Here's the link to the Denver Election Commission.

Here's an in-depth look at Mayor Hickenlooper's performance one year into the job, from the Denver Post [July 18, 2004, "Hickenlooper's honeymoon year"]. From the article, "A lovefest. That's the shortest way to sum up Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper's first year in office. With the brewpub owner-turned- politician launching his second year in office with his 'State of the City' speech Wednesday, reviews of his work range from good to glowing. But whether his extended honeymoon will surge deep into the coming year - one loaded with controversial issues - remains to be seen."
