Denver November 2004 Election

Early voting continues today. Vote early and vote often.

Here's a story from the Rocky Mountain News about Ken Salazar's Sleepless in Colorado tour that started last week.

Pete Coors is in the Rocky for lending his campaign another $500,00 [October 25, 2004, "Coors ups the ante"]. From the article, "Pete Coors dropped another $500,000 of his personal fortune into his U.S. Senate campaign this weekend, making him one of a handful of candidates nationwide to trigger the 'millionaire's amendment.' That provision of federal campaign finance law allows Coors' opponent, Ken Salazar, to at least triple the amount he can collect from individual donors - something Coors said in August he didn't want to do. Salazar's campaign moved quickly to counter, phoning and e-mailing big donors to ask for more cash, and Salazar accused his opponent of trying to buy his way to Washington." Here's the coverage from the Denver Post [October 25, 2004, "Coors' open wallet"].

2004 Presidential Election

The Rocky is profiling single women as voters in today's edition [October 25, 2004, "Making their voices heard"]. Here's an article from Saturday about hispanic voters from the Rocky [October 23, 2004, "Family's table talk turns to politics"].

John Kerry and Dick Cheney were in Colorado over the weekend and President Bush is due in Greeley today. Here's a story from the Rocky Mountain News about the visits [October 25, 2004, "Final stumps focus on backers].

Another post-war Black Eye? Josh Marshall writes, "Again, clearly I'm no expert on military-grade explosives, or any other grade for that matter. But clearly some reporting is needed here to give us a rough sense of the range of possibilities about how much of this stuff was used against our own soldiers."

Electoral-vote.com: "In contrast to previous Mondays, there are many new polls today, with 19 states getting new numbers (although most didn't change sides). In addition to the ususual polls, Zogby has begun daily tracking polls in 10 battleground states, which I will also toss into the hopper. According to Zogby's polls, conducted Oct. 21-24, Bush is currently leading in six states (FL, NM, NV, WI, IA, and OH), while Kerry is leading in four states (CO, MN, PA, MI). Some of these results are very surprising. Is Kerry really leading by 4% in Colorado? Is Bush really leading by 5% in New Mexico? I don't believe either of those. They are in conflict with too many other polls. Another example: the current Ohio University poll gives Kerry a 6% lead in that state, whereas Zogby puts Bush ahead by 5%. The MoE on these polls is 4%, so an 11% change in a couple of days in a state with so few undecideds is impossible. I think there are serious problems with the all the polls."

Update: Taegan Goddard: "New Hampshire - Kerry 50, Bush 41 (Franklin Pierce College); Colorado - Kerry 49, Bush 45 (Zogby); Florida - Bush 49, Kerry 46 (Zogby); Iowa - Bush 47, Kerry 45 (Zogby); Michigan - Kerry 52, Bush 42 (Zogby); Minnesota - Kerry 46, Bush 45 (Zogby); Nevada - Bush 48, Kerry 44 (Zogby); New Mexico - Bush 49, Kerry 44 (Zogby); Ohio - Bush 47, Kerry 42 (Zogby); Pennsylvania - Kerry 47, Bush 45 (Zogby); Wisconsin - Bush 48, Kerry 45 (Zogby)."

Update: Blogs for Bush: "For the first time since August, Kerry has edged a lead in the Rasmussen Daily Tracking Poll...Let this tell you that this election will come down the Get-Out-The Vote effort."
