Colorado Water
Water and fire officials are worried about the snowfall accumulation along the Front Range, according to the Rocky Mountain News [March 17, 2004, "Critical conditions"]. Denver and Aurora residents should brace themselves for water restrictions and their may be another dangerous fire season. From the article, "Statewide, average snowpack is in far better shape than 2002, the year Colorado experienced the worst drought on record. Then, it was just 56 percent at the outset of March. This year, it was 90 percent. But in the South Platte basin, one particularly important to Denver Water and Aurora, snowpack is at 69 percent of average and lagging further behind expected totals with each warm day. But that still beats 2002 levels, when on this date snowpack was 59 percent of average in the basin."
