Colorado Water

Here's an article discussing the future of the Colorado River, from the Rocky Mountain News [July 24, 2004, "Water fights likely"]. From the article, "Scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey say the drought may be the worst in 500 years...While Colorado's water demands have grown 30 percent in the past decade, the rate has been 40 percent in Arizona and 66 percent in Nevada. All three states rely, in part, on the Colorado River, as do California, Wyoming, Utah and New Mexico. The 1922 Colorado River Compact divides the flows among the states. Some Colorado water interests fear that California, Arizona and Nevada, which have relied on surplus flows, could try to revise the compact to increase their share of the river."

Coyote Gulch was out driving around last night, checking out the creeks and the South Platte. You would never know that we're in a drought. Out north of town the river was running high, like it used to, before they built Chatfield.
