Durango Herald: "Money for Colorado water projects is starting to flow out of Congress, but one representative worries that too much remains dammed up in Washington. U.S. Rep. John Salazar wants to examine the creation of a new federal trust fund for water treatment - similar to the fund that states use to build highways."

Steamboat Pilot & Today: "A group of parties concerned about upper Yampa basin water rights are working toward a settlement with applicants for 1,250 acre-feet of water rights."

Pueblo Chieftain: "Which came first: Water or growth? Water planners for Colorado Springs maintain they do not set policy for growth, and the high cost of water acquisition has been a matter of contention for years. Ray Nixon, who led Colorado Springs Utilities during its expansion in the explosion growth period of the 1950s and 1960s, was chastised by taxpayers for the high price tags on transmountain water projects, according to Marshall Sprague's history 'Newport in the Rockies.'"

Vail Trail: "Norton ruled in favor of lower basin states, but more problems are sure to come. In the 83 years since representatives of the seven Colorado River Basin states first divvied up the river's water, there's always been enough to meet the states' needs. Not anymore. A relatively wet winter has done little to offset five years of the worst drought in the region's recorded history, and Lake Powell and Lake Mead, the river system's 'backup batteries,' are at less than half of their combined capacity."
