Here's the first in a series of articles about water use and conservation efforts in Colorado from the Rocky Mountain News [July 2, 2005, "State cuts water use, takes drought to heart"]. From the article, "From Aspen to Fort Collins, Coloradans have shown a remarkable willingness to turn off sprinkler systems and faucets to help the state cope with the deepest drought in a half-century, slashing water use an average of 20 percent in the past four years. According to a 10-city Rocky Mountain News survey, Aurora leads in water-saving efforts, dropping residential use 35 percent since 2001. The fast-growing Denver suburb is followed closely by Fort Collins, which registered a 34 percent drop, and Denver, which slashed home use 29 percent."
