All you water nuts will be tickled pink to know that there's a Tamarisk Coalition. Coyote Gulch coverage of the issue here, here and here. Here's a writeup about efforts to destroy the plant in Coyote Gulch. The canyon, not the weblog. From the article, "(Bill) Wolverton has lead Sierra Club Service Trips and Wilderness Volunteers on plant murdering sprees in the canyons, carrying pruning saws, loppers and sprayers in addition to their hiking gear."
