The battle over Referendum C is focusing on funding for the arts, according to the Rocky Mountain News [July 28, 2005, "Funding for arts assailed again"]. From the article, "For the second time in two weeks, taxpayer- financed art has become an issue in the battle over a November budget measure. Independence Institute President Jon Caldara, a critic of Referendum C, said Wednesday he was outraged to learn of a state-funded, online arts program for high school students that included essays about female orgasms, and anti-war videos and poems."

Mike Littwin weighs in on Jon Caldara today [July 28, 2005, "Littwin: Cover the kids' ears - Caldara cuts loose"]. From the column, "Caldara is president of the Independence Institute. He is heading up the opposition to Ref C - and its alphabetic companion, Ref D - in advance of the vote this November. He's also the least politically correct person I know. So when you hear him railing about government spending on dildos and same-sex sheep and anti-war high school essays you know he's not outraged about whether the state might be spending money inappropriately. He's outraged that the government is spending any money at all."
