Denver November 20004 Election
As expected, Bob Schaffer won the top line on the August 10th primary ballot, according to the Denver Post [June 6, 2004, "Schaffer takes top ballot spot"]. From the article, "Republican activists turned out in force Saturday and waved hundreds of Schaffer signs, crowded the stage during their candidate's speech and sometimes booed when Coors partisans spoke. Many delegates said they were attracted to Schaffer because of his voting record and his beliefs. 'He's a good Christian man and pro-life,' said Mary Katherine Whitmore, a delegate from Burlington. 'I'm voting for him because of his moral values. He's an honest and sincere man.' John Straayer, professor of political science at Colorado State University, said Schaffer faces a tougher test in the primary, when all Republican voters are allowed to pick their candidate for the November election."
