Denver November 2004 Election

Bob Schaffer thinks that it would be a good idea for Attorney General, Ken Salazar, to resign while running for the Senate, according to the Denver Post [June 25, 2004, "Schaffer demands Salazar resign"]. From the article, "'I will not resign,' Salazar said. 'I suppose I would say that if George W. Bush resigns from the presidency of the United States of America today, I would resign from attorney general as well. But if he can be out there campaigning full time, all the time, on Air Force One, I can be out campaigning with my money and my truck with 144,000 miles, and yet I continue to do my job in the attorney general's office.' Schaffer didn't call for Bush's resignation. Nor did he resign as a state legislator when in 1996 he ran for the U.S. House of Representatives, although he said serving in the statehouse is a part-time job. In calling for Salazar's resignation, Schaffer claimed he was the front-runner in the Republican primary race with brewery executive Pete Coors. Voters will choose between Coors and Schaffer on Aug. 10. Cinamon Watson, spokeswoman for Coors, dismissed Schaffer's action as the "last gasp of a struggling campaign.'"

Here's the coverage from the Rocky Mountain News [June 25, 2004, "Schaffer on the attack"].

Mr. Schaffer is under scrutiny for claiming that he is a Bank Director when the bank has not been formed yet, according to the Rocky Mountain News. From the article, "Greenwood Bancorp is essentially a startup which is considering creating the Greenwood Federal Savings Bank, company officials said Thursday, and it hasn't applied for a federal bank charter yet." Ah, politics.
