Denver November 2004 Election

Thousands of absentee ballots were never mailed to Denver voters, acccording to the Denver Post [October 20, 2004, "13,000 absentee ballots delayed"]. From the article, "Denver Election Commission spokesman Alan McBeth attributed the mistake to a misunderstanding with a California vendor and promised that the missing ballots will be mailed by Thursday. Officials decided to trace what happened to thousands of absentee ballots after their phone system was overwhelmed with calls from voters who had not received them...The commission expects absentee voters to begin receiving missing ballots by Saturday, just 10 days before the election, and is urging those who have not received their ballots to wait." Here's the coverage from the Rocky Mountain News [October 20, 2004, "Absentee ballots 'lost' at printer"].

Several prominent politicians are in opposition to Amendment 36 according to the Denver Post [October 20, 2004, "Dems oppose electoral vote plan"]. From the article, "Democrats opposing the measure said that while it may be a good idea to reform the Electoral College's winner- take-all system, it should be done on a national level - not state by state."

Here's an opinion piece about Referred Question 1A (Denver Police oversight) from the Denver Post [October 20, 2004, "Question 1A: Police oversight board"]. Here are the arguments on the pro side [October 20, 2004, "YES: Civilian input will enhance safety"]. Here are the arguments on the con side.

Update: People concerned with e-voting are using web technologies to monitor this year's elections. You gotta love the Internet.
