Denver November 2004 Election

Early voting goes through Friday at 6:00 p.m. Vote early and vote often.

You might want to think about voting early. Donetta Davidson (Colorado Secretary of State) issued an 83 page book of instructions for poll workers yesterday, according to the Rocky Mountain News [October 27, 2004, "Rules a 'moving target'"]. From the article, "Colorado Secretary of State Donetta Davidson issued her 83- page guide for election judges Monday and Tuesday, a week before Election Day, even while working on new emergency rules. The manual was sent to county election officials, who were shocked it was being released so late. Some counties are finished with training for election judges, and many are still doing it this week." Here's the coverage from the Denver Post [October 27, 2004, "Poll judges confused about rules"].

To add to the potential confusion, but in an attempt to make sure that the election is fair, both major parties have trained hundreds of poll watchers, according to the Rocky Mountain News [October 27, 2004, "'Eyes' will have it"]. From the article, "3,500 polls will be open in Colorado on Election Day. Each party, by law, has the right to have one watcher per polling place. That poll watcher must be registered to vote in the county where he or she is working and be certified by a chairperson of their party. Their job is to preserve the integrity of the election and the rights of voters, regardless of party affiliation."

Here's an article about environmental and health groups endorsing endorsing FasTracks from the Denver Post [October 27, 2004, "Environmental coalition backs FasTracks"].

My boss, Mayor Hickenlooper, has been busy trying to get voters to approve Referendum 4A (FasTracks), Referendum 4B (Scientific and Cultural District tax) and Referred Question 1A (Police oversight) according to the Denver Post [October 27, 2004, "No stopping stumping mayor"].

The Denver Post has a special section on the U.S. Senate race [October 25, 2004, "Campaign 2004: A look at the Senate candidates"].
