Karrin's Road Words - Japan In June

"My favorite memories/experiences (besides the music and people) were massage, mineral baths (sadly - only once), the Geisha house, japanese food and beer/saki, watching the lush landscape and rice paddies from the tour bus and train, backgammon with Jim on the bus."

Some fun to read items about life and the road. I'd love to see a jazz artist blogging about their work and life. Jazz is so much about the experience and expression in the moment, but unless you see a lot of live jazz, you are getting the expression somewhat canned. It would add a lot to those canned moments to know what was really happening in that persons life (which a blog is a perfect vehicle for showing) when those precious moments of creation we're laid down on wax (old DJ term) for us.

Anyway, maybe we'll ask Karrin about this when we interview her next week on The New Jazz Thing (Thursday, August 8, 7:00 pm PT) at Jazz 88, KSDS San Diego 88.3 FM.

Night After Night (and Night Night)

Today (and yesterday, he explains how) Doc talks about his 5 boy (I've got a 4 boy) and bed time and blog time. The bed time is so different from mine. I'm in a rush to get them to bed and Doc spends theirs watching the stars. Something to be learned and tried there. Hopefully with the new house the backpatio will be more sound-amiable for late night view-snooze session as opposed to our wide-open freeway spaces. Doc really sounds like a sweet dude (and babes dig him...suggestion: check out all links in that post)

Another interesting and journal-pro-sounding point in today's prescription from the Doc is his blog routine, at least the early-edition version. With his blog on East Coast Time and he on West Coast time, he can publish after 9:00 and readers will have fresh Doc in the morning when they start their day. And any of us later-evening west coast bloggers get first crack at his wit and wisdom (and smoothness-of-fatherdom). The first thing that clicked with me was the ability to have fresh content on the site for the next day even before hitting the hay for the evening. This would totally relieve the pressure for first light posting to get something up on the site for the day. Although by 9:00 pm, I'm pretty beat. Wonder if that has anything to do with stressing about getting the kid-day-done...can't help. Again, thought provoking as usual...Thanks Doc.
