TNJT Live Recap...15 minutes later.... A last word for now on tonight's show. What a disaster. The music was fun, but what a disappointment on the interview. I had sloppy-eighths tonight with Karrin (busy time when you release a disc) and without very good prep, couldn't get to the key questions to keep her on the line any longer than about 11 minutes. I had unorganized material for about an hour of discussion, but that was not to be. Ugh. Combined with the minimal radio-type functionality in Master Control, while the air-booth gets an over-hall, and the the carpet guys make my CD skip on the air, I'm so lucky I'm out. And heading home. Didn't get anything on tape and don't care...again, the music rocked but then again...
I'll be off the air next week for the big re-settlement, but back on August 22 for more New. Later...VO |
Janis Ian Speaks The Word "So why are the record labels taking such a hard line? My guess is that it's all about protecting their internet-challenged business model. Their profit comes from blockbuster artists. If the industry moved to a more varied ecology, independent labels and artists would thrive - to the detriment of the labels…" This is what I read on the show, from Janis Ian's follow-up, Fallout - A Follow Up to The Internet Debacle". And here's the rest of the quote from this must read article, if you want to see what our artists think...
"The smoking gun comes from testimony of an RIAA-backed economist who told the government fee panel that a dramatic shakeout in Webcasting is 'inevitable and desirable because it will bring about market consolidation'." ("Labels to Net Radio: Die Now", Steven Levy in Newsweek, July 15, 2002.)"

The New Jazz Thing! Live Thursday 6 to 9 pm PT - 88.3 FM San Diego - Karrin Allyson is New! About 20 minutes before the show starts... Karrin Allyson Interview Notes: Some things to talk about tonight at 7:00 pm PT, Karrin's hanging by phone in NY. "In Blue" is her new disc. We've played in the last couple weeks and it's been fun. And bluesy. The liner notes are cool to be her own words.

Totally digging Art Taylor's Notes and Tones. In particular good form was Hampton Hawes. I'll see what I can read on the show tonight. Links coming also. Grooving out of time... |
