Adjusting Exposure in NEF Files
To get the widest dynamic range and the lowest noise from Nikon's raw format, NEF, use the program Nikon Capture to edit and render them.
To get the most options for exposure, regardless of noise, as well as the smallest file size, use Adobe Camera Raw with Photoshop.
