One of These Days

comments

Yesterday was the last day to register to vote to replace our president, and on a host of other issues. Being a Luddite, I fear the newfangled, all electronic voting machines. Well, what I really fear is election fraud. One company, Diebold Election Systems, has garnered a lion's share of voting machine contracts. Their machines have been shown to be vulnerable to tampering, and the company has repeatedly said they will not make a paper audit trail available. Diebold has obfuscated this and attempted to protect their vote tallying algorithms as proprietary.

Since when is straight forward counting a trade secret?

But scariest of all is the bias they have in tilting the election their way. Diebold CEO, Walden O'Dell has said that he is committed to deliver votes to President Bush. A bit of counting algorithm tampering would accomplish that nicely.

I watched Desperate Housewives, the new and highly touted night time soap opera last night. It's been a while since there have been evening/weekly soaps on, although I've never been much of a fan. Dallas, 90...000 (whatever) and Melrose didn't have much draw for me, but the premise of this one did get me to punch it into the TiVO.

It seems to be made from one third the current Showtime weekly, Dead Like Me, one third the Oscar winning movie American Beauty and one third David Lynch's masterpiece soap opera (?), Twin Peaks. I've only seen one episode, but I'll be watching for a few weeks longer, I think, so we'll see...
