Math Teachers Who Almost Took Math. By Alfred S. Posamentier.Mathematics is one of the most important subjects in the curriculum, a necessary foundation for many other areas of study, and we are allowing people who may know precious little about it to teach it. Some of them may become fine teachers, but they may not know much more about specific mathematics topics than what is in the textbook they are using.

Damn right!, but the problem behind this is the attitude of society towards math and science. Yes, they are appreciated in theory, but in practice, they are despised... If someone tells you they don't understand math, you would think that is normal... it is not!. Math as any other subject takes effort to master, it is a disservice to make kids believe it is okay to not be good at math.

Though I admire Dr. Wolfram and Mathematica, this kind of thing only raises suspicion. It's okay that he wants to be independent of grants and such, but what exactly does he have against peer review? Why not publish in journals?
Don't get me wrong I will buy the book and read it carefully, but this thoughts will be in the back of my mind through the whole process, which will make it harder for him to convince me. Science, if nothing else, is persuasion.
