Steve Gillmor: "Spam will go away -- with the death of e-mail."

I use a more efficient filter that doesn't require me to navigate to another folder to find out what I don't care about. That filter is the "From" line. In a pinch I use the "Subject" line. As a last resort, I forward the mail with an FYI.

[Scripting News]

I normally like Steve Gillmor writing, but I do not understand what he is talking about. It seems he hasn't tried any of the Spam blockers because he only reads emails from friends (well, spam blockers do that for you), he claims email will die (yeah, right), and then he says he may use the subject line to filter email (again spam blockers can do that for you with little effort and very efficiently).

It seems to me he is too lazy to look up the facts on this. As I said before, spam is a solved problem technically, now people and companies just have to deploy the right tech to stop it...This kind of article does not help... It doesn't even make sense...

Wired.  Hilarious story about the guy who took control of Al-Qaida's official website.  This isn't so funny:

>>>When Messner took control of alneda.com, he immediately contacted federal authorities. "The frustrating part was that it took me five days to actually talk to someone (in the FBI) who had a working knowledge of the Internet, and by that time the opportunity was gone. <<< [John Robb's Radio Weblog]

Apple 'Switch' Star Flies High. Ellen Feiss, the young star of one of Apple's new switch ads, is gaining a large following online. She's the subject of fan sites, icons, desktops and Photoshop parodies. Can Mahir-like fame be far behind? By Leander Kahney. [Wired News]

I hope Ellen doesn't pay attention to this nonsense. Laugh it all, girl, you appeared in Wired! Even if it was in a lame Leander Kahney article. Must Mac users liked the ad. Most PC users hate it...

Now, don't you think it is weird that in the last month, since MacWorld, there has been negative story after negative story against Apple. Let's count them:

  • Microsoft will not make Office Mac anymore (untrue)
  • Apple will switch to Intel processors (very unlikely)
  • New macs will not boot in OS 9 (untrue)
  • Apple is charging way too much for OS X upgrade (misguided)
  • Apple used bait and switch with .mac (misrepresentation)
  • Apple put an ad on TV with a stoned girl (Untrue, the people that think that are just out of touch with teenagers. They all talk like that, and you know what? It's not a bad way to talk... Try it, but you have to be creative to do it well...

What next? Apple is a front for the Taliban? Apple is helping Colombian guerrilla forces? Apple is pro-Chavez? (the last one I've heard already, believe it or not...
