Torvalds: What, me worry?. Linux creator Linus Torvalds sounds off on SCO Group's lawsuit against IBM, intellectual property in the open-source world and the future of the Linux operating system.

By the way, I'm getting really tired of the "proprietary IP" thing. How many times do I have to repeat that the SCO case isn't about IP at all, and that SCO has just been spouting crap when they have brought up their FUD about IP issues.

On this day last year, the iPod was working. Thanks again to Rogers and the 32 others who bought me this wonderful gift. I use it all the time. That's saying something. There are few electronic toys that give so much and work so well. [Scripting News]

Second 'Saddam tape' aired. A tape recording said to be of Saddam Hussein played on Lebanese TV urges Iraqis to expel the occupying forces. [BBC News | Front Page | UK Edition]

It is so silly to think that the main clue to authenticity of a recording is whether or not the voice is from whom it says it is, that I have no other choice than to spun my own theory about this. Osama bin Laden is dead, Saddam Hussein is dead. They are being kept alive by two things. First, is the tradition of the undead warrior in the muslim culture (this is where El Cid Campeador last battle comes from, but there are other, more important, examples). Second, is the political convenience of the US government. If Saddam is dead and Osama is dead, terrorists acts or the attacks on the US military in Iraq would need a different explanation (like, people don't like occupying forces or Saudi Arabia is the root of terrorism) and the war on terrorism would have to be tone down, before it achieves it main (political) objective.

Before you dismiss this, think about it for a moment. If you where Saddam or Osama, couldn't you record a video tape (with a 400$ mini-DV cam, edited with iMovie on a 900$ iBook!), making very clear it is recent (put a newspaper, talk about a well-known unexpected event from the day before) and post it to the web? This is easy to do without leaving any clues (don't tape exterior, send it from a Cyber Cafe in a different country where the leader is staying). I mean, this people must have money with them and a lot of power, and they can only produce a dubious audio tape? And, to top it of, there is no time clue on them! It's silly, I tell you. Even the CIA could do better, they probably want to create doubt and not certainty...

Math Isn't for Everyone. [New York Times: Opinion]

The Ultimate vacuum of elitism! Math is for everyone. The problem is not the brain or intelligence of people, but the justification of ignorance, to the level of exaltation, in our culture. It is perfectly Ok, not to be able to balance your checkbook, or not knowing the name of a single scientist alive, but, God forbid, that you don't know who Bekcham is married to or the name of the current blond bombshell pretending to be a musician... Math is Sense!
