Reuters, 9/19/02:  EDS sees services revenue "virtually stop"

Computer services giant Electronic Data Systems slashed its earnings outlook, saying spending on services had virtually stopped.

EDS, second only to IBM in the global computer-services sector, said Wednesday that a chronic slowdown in spending by its existing customers and a lack of new deals will wipe out more than 60 cents from its third quarter earnings target of 74 cents per share.

Reuters, 9/19/02:  Microsoft unveils hardware for wireless networking

SEATTLE (REUTERS) -- Microsoft Corp. , eager to spread its software and services throughout the home, has set its sights on a new market: wireless home networking.

The world's biggest software maker said on Thursday that it will begin selling within the next few weeks Microsoft-branded hardware that will let users connect their personal computers and notebooks through wireless connections using the 802.11b standard, also called Wi-Fi.

Infoworld, 9/18/02:  DemoMobile: Microsoft finds 'killer app' for Pocket PC Phone devices

MICROSOFT SAYS IT may have come up with a "killer application" for devices that run its Pocket PC Phone Edition operating system software, and on Wednesday announced a new server product that could allow developers to prove that right.

At the DemoMobile show taking place this week in La Jolla, Calif., the company will be demonstrating the Microsoft Enterprise Location Server, server software that allows enterprise customers to build applications for mobile devices that make use of location-based services.

Infoworld, 9/19/02:  Microsoft urges users to patch flaws in its VM for Java

MICROSOFT WARNED OF two software flaws that could allow an attacker to take control of PCs running its Windows operating systems. All Windows users should patch their software to correct the flaws, which Microsoft described as critical in a notice late Wednesday.

The flaws lie in Microsoft's virtual machine (VM) software for running Java applications on Windows computers. All versions of the VM, including the latest 5.0.3805, are affected, Microsoft said in security bulletin MS02-052. (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS02-052.asp)

Reuters, 9/18/02:  Sun Announces Plans for Low-Cost Linux PC

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Computer maker Sun Microsystems Inc. (NasdaqNM:SUNW - News) said on Wednesday it would begin selling early next year inexpensive desktop computers based on the free Linux operating system in a bid to undermine archrival Microsoft Corp (NasdaqNM:MSFT - News).
