Corporate tribalism: "Capito didn't blink when I pointed out that Nike pays Michael Jordan a reported $25 million a year to lend his name to the company's gear. The company pays millions more to place its swooshes on billboards and in the media, and in big-budget Hollywood movies. And yet Capito spends hundreds of his own hard-earned dollars to serve as a walking billboard for the company." [From the Desktop of Dane Carlson] ( This is the kind of thing I was talking about when I said just forget the actual products and simply sell a piece fo plastic, metal or fabric with the actual brand on it. That's what it boils down to. It doesn't matter if the product is good or sucks, simply because everybody buys into Madison Square consumerism. You just have to have this particular brand of stuff - fill in the brand and product of your choice. And if you happen to buy some crappy nylon bag with the name of an italian firm on it, you get the pleasure of paying $600.00 for $20.00 worth of nylon and metal. And all the other people who overpaid for their nylon will see you on the street and think your cool and with it and all that. The crappy nylon by the way is called "Prada" and I'm completely serious. I'm sure there are many more companies like Enron that are laughing all the way to the bank because people are so easily led and sold on stuff.)
