Wired News: Regulating the Olympic Rings. Just as in the Sydney 2000 Olympics, the International Olympic Committee has banned any unauthorized webcasts of Olympic events or other related audio and video products in order to protect television broadcasters' multi-million dollar rights deals. [Tomalak's Realm]
Joe sent out a memo around the corp warning that the Olympic Committee was very serious about us not streaming any coverage. It makes things very complicated for our streaming since there is Olympic coverage in the hourly news broadcasts. Funnily enough I sat on the train to Montreal on Thursday night with a fellow who works for a company who handles the Radio 1 and Radio 2 streams and who wrote software to handle this problem.

Glenn says they have better coverage of the Olympics on the Canadian TV network. How do I get that on DirecTV? I have a sad feeling that I can't. [Scripting News]
Very nice comments about Canucks from Glenn Fleishman.
We Canucks have long enjoyed superior Olympic Games coverage thanks to the CBC (that's the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). When I've looked at the US station's coverage in the past, it's often been delayed and packaged (especially when the Olympics aren't in North America) and sometimes completely ignores the medal winners to talk exclusively about the American athletes. It's not really about covering the sport. It's about waving the flag.
Disclosure: I work for the CBC but in Radio Music which is a long way from TV Sports.

Sorry guys, sometimes a smile is just a smile: new research suggests that men too often mistake women's everyday behavior as a sign of sexual interest. [Damast] [Adam Curry: CurryDotCom]"Indeed, psychologists have long known that men
''over-perceive'' women's sexual interest. Speaking with Reuters
Health, Nelson said the most widely accepted theory for why
this happens is one based on evolution. ``What men are trying to
do is minimize costly (mating) errors--that is, missing an
opportunity,'' he explained."Coudn't be more timely. It's always reassuring to have an evolutionary theory to fall back on to explain one's behaviour.
