Can new technology allow the late great masters to perform once more?
[Via New York Times: Technology]

"Dr. Walker is developing technology that enables him to break down the sounds of an old recording, digitize them and reproduce them on a Disklavier, an up-to-the-minute player piano that can record and replay performances by means of a CD in a slot above the keyboard. Sophisticated fiber optics control the instrument's hammers."

Teen bloggers get parents worried

Anyone who has visited MySpace or Xanga will be aware that many teenagers, typically aged 11-14, are posting information that would be better restricted to their school friends, not shared with the world. When -- or if -- their parents...

News: Apple wins five PCWorld Top 100 awards

If there was any doubt that Apple’s technologies are crossing the traditional platform barriers, one only needs to look at PCWorld’s recently released top 100 Best Products of 2005 to get the answer. Apple Computer captured five honors in PCWorld’s annual awards. The winning products and their overall ranking out of 100 were, Mac OS X Tiger (3), iTunes (34), Mac mini (75), iPod Photo (78) and the iTunes Music Store (86).

10.4: Another Safari/QuickTime save movie tip

After updating to Tiger I soon realised that I could no longer "save" those embeded movie I so cherish to collect even after updating to Quicktime Pro. And apparently, I'm not alone.

I might have found a workaround.

Liberals Condemn U.S. on Leftist Movements (AP)
Hundreds of intellectuals and politicians from Latin America's left gathered for an anti-terror conference in Cuba, but they never talked about al-Qaida, focusing instead on their own shared nemesis — the U.S. government.

Startup to offer CD-quality downloads, will Apple follow?

[Via AppleInsider]
"For a tiny company, its ambitions are enough to make any serious music lover drool. However, a burning question is whether there is a market large enough for MusicGiants to prosper. It may be too early to tell, but if the company does well, competitors like Apple may be forced to follow in its footsteps.

Over the past two years reoccurring rumors have suggested that Apple was preparing to offer tunes beyond its current 128 kbps AAC format, but these rumors never materialized. Instead, the company has argued that iTunes users are happy with current compression standards and that the human ear can't distinguish between CD-quality and bit rates of more than 192 kbps. MusicGiants will be the first to take a stab at proving them wrong."

I wish.

10.4: View images and maps in Dictionary

Not a major hint, but interesting for those who hadn't yet noticed: the dictionary in 10.4 includes maps and images for some items. For example, look up 'mushroom,' 'pasta,' and 'Europe.'

CBC Launches 100% Canadian, 100% "Podsafe" Indy Music Podcast
CBC Radio this afternoon has launched a brand new way to experience the best in Canadian music and culture... its first music podcast.
The CBC Radio 3 podcast is special for three big reasons:
  • To our knowledge, this is the first all music-based podcast from a public broadcaster -- and certainly the first all-Canadian offering.
  • It's chock full of 100% 'podsafe' music
  • This podcast comes from a special unit at the CBC called Radio 3.
Our mission: to showcase new and emerging Canadian music and culture. We've got a website at www.newmusiccanada.com, that houses close to 30,000 tracks from more than 6,000 Canadian artists on it (!), and this podcast is full of the best of New Music Canada's best.
