If Apple goes Itanium 2, it's NEWS

Why, howdy. Can I fetch you up a big ol' lump of speculation? At the top end, Apple's next CPU chip is going to be the Itanium 2. It's a chance to step in where HP and others decided to walk away. Intel can give Apple a head-slappin deal, and Apple immediately inherets awesome Intel compilers. The VLIW (very long instruction word) is capale of emulating PowerPC native code very rapidly. Apple has already crafted first-rate cooling and heat management solutions for PowerPC, aspects that are needed. And there is no one better to carry Intanium 2 into the mainstream.

And oh, daddy, high-end video games with the richness of Itanium 2...Frames per second gives way to seizures per hour.
