Ken Rawlings: "Speaking of Tachy, if anyone knows of any straightforward papers on compiling closures please let me know". Take a look at Lisp in Small Pieces. An excellent book for implementing Lisp sysetms. Covers interpreters, compilers, continuations and compiling to C amongst other things. The Goo implementation was apparently based on some of the work in the book.
