- In the first tutorial, Dr. John Timmer gave an overview of how to execute Unix shell commands without ever leaving AppleScript. In the second part, he provides some concrete examples of how to get useful work done with AppleScript's shell capabilites.

Jaguar brings folder actions and AppleScript Studio 1.2

- Among the many features included in Jaguar (Mac OS X v10.2) is AppleScript integrated with the Finder for folder actions, and AppleScript Studio 1.2. C'mon! There's got to be more than that for hard core scripters! I wish Apple would quit wasting resources on chat programs and turn the AppleScript team loose!   smiley

CelView v3.0.1

- Celview gives access to IBM AS/400 and Mainframe computers with 3270 or 5250 terminal emulation, file transfer and printing. It can connect directly with AS/400's or mainframes, or indirectly through IBM Communications Server, Microsoft Host Integration Server, Celview SNA Gateway, or the NetWare for SAA Server. It is AppleScriptable, with a macro facility also, and has easily configurable onscreen keypads and drag and drop keyboard mapping. [release notes]

Moa Tunes v1.01

- Moa Tunes is a GUI shell for a number of scripts that Wooden Brain Concepts and others have written for iTunes. Built in AppleScript Studio, Moa Tunes works in tight integration with iTunes to provide many features. These include easy switching of playlists and playing random playlists and tracks, cleaning ID3 tags, searching for information on tracks on various internet sites, sampling and optionally trashing potentially duplicate MP3 files, removing dead tracks, generation of signatures for Entourage X or Eudora X based on the music playing in iTunes, start and stop timers with fade-out, a floating info bar with controllers, and support for displaying current track info on the desktop with DesktopConsole. Version changes: Support for composer and ratings in info windows when using iTunes 3.0. Now stable with AppleScript 1.8.3 (required).

Free Adobe Scripting Days

- Shane Stanley, of Myriad Communications, will present a free, two day AppleScript training seminar in Sydney, Australia on Wednesday, August 21 and Thursday, August 22, 2002. The training, which will be hosted by Nick Hodge of Adobe Systems, will include sessions on InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and workflow integration.
