FEATURED ARTICLES - True Majority ACTION - Rhino's Blog reader comments - On the Theme of "The Wounded" by Bard Paul Michaels QUOTE OF THE DAY "I search high and low, to no avail, for the beginning of some "media accounting" of what life will be like for those brothers and sisters in military service, who, if and when their bodies return from Iraq ... souls, minds and hearts will be in severe, serious "Complex PTSD"... ... It means bringing that hell home to the daily lives of Americans. As those days come to pass, we will need a lot more than pious preaching from the White House ... we will need massive MENTAL HEALTH CLINICS IN EVERY CITY IN THIS COUNTRY!" - - Bard Paul Michaels (from today's RHINO'S BOTTOM LINE) KNOW YOUR HISTORY - NOVEMBER 7th 1972 -- The U.S. Congress finally (after 9 attempts) passes The War Powers Act, over Tricky Dick Nixon's veto. The legislation sought to limit a President's power to commit armed forces to hostilities abroad without Congressional approval, but the inhabitants of The Oval Office have been making their way around the law ever since. 2000 -- Despite the U.S. Government spending a record 3+ billion taxpayer dollars urging the American electorate to vote, only a minority of eligible Americans do so. Approximately half of those eligible, are registered. Approximately half of those registered, actually vote. And since Gore received the majority of the votes in 2000, shrub was selected by the supreme court to inhabit the Oval Office having a mandate of less than one eighth of eligible American voters. RHINO HERE: A great reward to me for making Rhino's Blog happen, is that I receive some terrific email from y'all. Today I offer a few recent examples, including a heart felt BOTTOM LINE. But first, Rhino's Blog reader Ben Cohen is asking for some more teamwork. You may already be one of the 330,000 people signed onto his e-org called True Majority which in its 1 year at work, has facilitated 3 million messages sent to Congress effectively blocking confirmation of extremist judges & urging Congress to roll back Michael Powell's FCC de-regs. Now focusing ahead to the Presidential election of 2004, Ben is creating True Majority ACTION. Here's a bit of the call he issued recently: Dear Gary, The election is just a year away and we have a way for you to get involved that is just as easy and effective as TrueMajority.org. But because of IRS rules you'll have to sign yourself up - we can't do it for you. Just send this email back to us by hitting "reply" and "send" in your email program or click this link and fill out the short form that pops up. Really, it's that easy. TrueMajority ...We would now like to turn (our) power to other issues, the most important of which is making sure that we have a President in the White House we can all support. TrueMajority.org is prohibited from getting directly involved in the election, so we've created TrueMajorityACTION. This sister group will work on a variety of issues, including the election. We will give our members fast, fun, and effective ways to really make a difference next November. We can win next November if we work together. Yours in being even more effective, Ben and the TrueMajorityACTION gang Hi Gary: ...Been thinking about the electronic voting machines that are to take over in the next general election and am really worried about the possibility that they could be fixed to throw elections-guess to whom. How do you prevent this? Paper backup would probably work. If not, perhaps a massive effort to boycott the machines by voting absentee. If enough people voted absentee especially in close states it might negate possible computer shennanigans . If not, too bad, but a ten-fold increase in absentee voting would at least send a message about how far we trust this administration . Chiao, Rhino - Thought you'd like this: Gertrude M. Subject: RFPI Lock-Out Society for Professional Journalists & Others: Of possible interest, the current lock-out of Radio For Peace International . Because it is a program of The Peace University, run by the UN, it is not subject to local jurisdiction, 'tho host Costa Rica expresses gravely concerned. RFPI speculates the reason they're locked in the building, water shut off, etc., is because the new administrator of Peace University has ties to the World Bank, and RFPI has amplified the anti-globalization movement. They are issuing an urgent appeal at their website http://rfpi.org/locked_out.html (Ironically perhaps, they're invoking the right to media in the U.N. charter of human rights.)
