WEEKEND TV TIP - National Lampoon's Thanksgiving Reunion
Premiers on TBS Sunday night, Nov 23 - Produced by Rhino's Blog reader
Gary Hoffman
Not political, but very funny. Good for those sorely needed chuckles.
RHINO HERE:
I begin with a teaser for those who will be in Southern California
this coming Tuesday. There will be a special screening at UCLA of the big
winner at the recent American Indian Film Festival. It's a 4 hour epic
entitled Dreamkeepers & Monday's blog will provide the info for free admittance.
As is The Rhino's way, below find the weekend lighter side, including the BOTTOM
LINE, consisting of excerpts from The Wingnut Debate Dictionary, a public
domain compilation of politically motivated jargon. If Rhino was to add a new
one to the collection, it would be, LIBERAL FIRING SQUAD - when left leaning
politicos object to each others stances on a single issue, they form a circle & let
loose with both barrels. Havawonderfulweekend!
Hungarian Says Rock Defeated Communism
By M.R. KROPKO, Associated Press, 11/9/03
CLEVELAND - Rock music played lead in giving Hungarian baby boomers the resolve
to bring down their communist state, says one of those reformers who today is
a government official.
Andreas Simonyi, Hungary's ambassador to the United
States, spent an hour Saturday night discussing the impact of Western songs on
Eastern European politics before an invitation-only audience of 250 at the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame. Simonyi, 51, was a devoted fan of the Beatles, Cream,
Traffic and Jimi Hendrix when their releases weren't officially permitted in
Hungary. Records and tapes sometimes were smuggled in or recorded from foreign
radio broadcasts.

Hindus urged to curb 'Muslim threat' by having big families
by Maseeh Rahman in New Delhi, The Guardian, 11/20/03
A radical Hindu political party in Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state,
which is a key ally of the country's ruling party, is encouraging Hindus to have
more children because of fears of a Muslim population explosion. The militant
Shiv Sena party announced that it had identified 50 Hindu couples with five or
more children in the parliamentary constituency of the Indian prime minister,
Atal Bihari Vajpayee. "We will honour these couples at a special function
next month by conferring the title 'Awakened Hindu Family'," said the Shiv
Sena's state chief, Vijay Tiwari . Couples with more than 10 children would be
given gifts of gold or silver.

Cannibal apology group aims to make Fiji "God-fearing"
SUVA, (AFP)11/20/03 - A group that recently arranged an apology
for an incident of cannibalism in Fiji in the 19th century aims to identify "evil
leaders" and replace them with "God-fearing" ones, its strategy
papers show. "It is not enough to leave the selection of God-fearing leaders
to government as it may not have the kind of discernment and spiritual anointing
needed to identify God-fearing leaders," the Association of Christian Churches
of Fiji (ACCF) strategy paper says. ACCF organised a November 13 ceremony, to
lift what was said to be a curse, in which the Nabutautau village apologised
to Australian descendants of Methodist missionary Thomas Baker who was killed
and eaten in 1867.
