LEIVA, Associated Press, Apr 13, 2004 RICHMOND, Va. - CBS Television, which passed on the miniseries "The Reagans" amid conservative pressure, and the Martha Stewart (news -web sites) trial judge are among this year's winners of the dubious Jefferson Muzzle awards for suppression of free speech. A federal judge and the Secret Service also earned "muzzles" awarded Tuesday. CBS was cited "for acts of self-censorship demonstrating both hypocrisy and an unwillingness to stand up to public and political pressure," the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression said in a statement. CBS also refused to air a 30-second commercial from Moveon.org, a group critical of the Bush administration, during the Super Bowl, while it allowed erectile dysfunction commercials and the halftime show featuring Janet Jackson (news)'s bared breast, it said. Other muzzles recipients announced in the 13th annual edition of the awards include Baseball Hall of Fame President Dale Petroskey, who canceled a 15th anniversary showing of "Bull Durham" because of opposition to the Iraq (news - web sites) war by its stars, Susan Sarandon (news) and Tim Robbins (news)... MORE: Muzzle Awards PHONY TO THE CORE: The "Ole Family Ranch" in Crawford is a Set Completed the Same Day the Election was Stolen By Cheryl Seal, Democrats.com Have you seen all those article and pictures of Bush "at home on the ranch" in Crawford - the ones that imply that he is "just an ole ranch hand" more comfortable on the family homestead than in the "Big City," be it Austin or D.C.? Well, if you bought this image, you've been royally snuckered. The Bush family homestead in Crawford is nothing more than an elaborate set. The house, built in 2000, was designed to be ready for Bush to step into - like a set awaiting an actor - during the 2000 presidential election. Not only was the "ranch" created in 2000 - so, essentially, was the "town" of Crawford! Before then only about 400 people lived in the area. The Crawford Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture were formed shortly after the ranch was finished. ... So, in short, we have a "president" who, ON THE SAME DAY - November 7, 2000 - stole an election and had the last nail driven into a phony ranch set. But with a completely snuckered press corps, we also have had a completely snuckered public. MORE: http://www.democrats.com/view.cfm?id=6687 Special Release: President Bush Legalizes Marijuana In America Historic Executive Order to Take Effect on April 20 April 1, 2004 : ) Washington, DC: In a move that astonished conservatives and liberals alike, President George W. Bush issued a surprise executive order today legalizing the possession and sale of marijuana in the United States. The order will take effect on April 20, long considered marijuana smokers' independence day. When asked about the sudden change of heart, President Bush explained; "The other night Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Powell and I were in the war room mulling over how to sway public opinion on the war in Iraq. We were stuck in the same rut of tired old ideas and were in desperate need of creative new ways of thinking. That's when Karl Rove pulled out a fatty." While Bush admitted that it had been 30 years since his last toke, he figured, "Why not. I am the President. What can they do, arrest me?" President Bush made the announcement in his weekly radio address, saying that it's "high time" we reformed our marijuana policies. "The reality is," said the President, "marijuana is far less dangerous than alcohol or tobacco and far too many people have had their lives ruined after being arrested for nothing more than a doobie. Besides, my Pink Floyd records haven't sounded this good since my days at Yale. Boy, those were some good times."...
