FEATURED ARTICLES - Amazing Results From Texas, by Congressman Dennis Kucinich - Help The Kucinich Campaign Influence The Democratic Party Platform - Enter your input at The DNC's Platform Comments Page - MOVIE REVIEW OF "Fahrenheit 911" - By Way of Deception, The Nation QUOTE OF THE DAY "The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate, In fact violence merely increases hate. So it goes. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." - - Martin Luther King, Jr. KNOW YOUR HISTORY - JUNE 25th 1876 -- Lakota, Cheyenne & Arapahoe tribes defeat U.S. Army at Little Big Horn, Montana. Better yet, charter a bus & fill it full of your Republican friends! Pero primero, The Kucinich Campaign has been plugging along like "The Little Engine That Could," working to have The U.S. Department of Peace legislation adopted by The Democratic Party as a plank in this year's platform. They've set up a web page facilitating you to be able to express your views to the platform committee on that and other important issues. Rhino sez, "Get on board The Peace Train!" Amazing Results From Texas by Congressman Dennis Kucinich, www.kucinich.us, June 22, 2004 We've had an extraordinary weekend and I want to share what's happened. In Texas, the Texas State Democratic Party has included in its platform the Department of Peace. It was a major development brought about by the work of hundreds of our volunteers on the floor of the state convention in Texas, and it's a real credit to their work and also to the rising sentiment across this country that America MUST take a new direction - that it's no longer adequate to just approach these problems with the same mind set with which the problems were created. That is that we have to get out of Iraq. We have to bring our troops home. And we have to take a new direction in our society that turns away from violence as an instrument of policy, that works to make non-violence inevitable, that works to make war a thing of the past. And so, when Texas stood up and approved the Department of Peace in the Texas State Democratic Platform it marked a milestone in our efforts. Texas has joined Oregon, Washington, Colorado in passing resolutions in favor of the Department of Peace... We can once again become a beacon of hope for the world. To do that, we must reject the current administration's policies of fear, suspicion, and preemptive war. It is time to jettison our illusions and fears and to transform age-old challenges with new thinking. This is the idea behind my proposal to establish a Department of Peace. In order to do so, we need a strong Democratic Party that offers a clear alternative on the issues. To help align the party platform with the values of most Democratic voters, we are collecting signatures for six petitions, reflecting our most urgent national priorities. We will present the signatures at the final Democratic Party Platform Committee meeting which will take place in Miami, Florida on July 9th and 10th, as a complement to our efforts on the ground at the Democratic National Convention in Boston. The petitions call for platform planks on the following issues: - Ending the war in Iraq; - Enacting universal health care; - Repealing the "Patriot" Act; - Ending NAFTA and the WTO in favor of fair trade, jobs and workers' rights; - Creating a Cabinet-level Department of Peace; and - Ensuring equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans. Sending massive numbers of petitions is a powerful way to demonstrate how many of us want the Democratic Party to stand for these things. Making such a statement also will help to convince the Party's nominee for President how important it is to be responsive on these issues, to attract enough voters to beat George W. Bush. TO READ AND QUICKLY SIGN ANY OR ALL OF THE PETITIONS, GO TO: http://www.kucinich.us/petitions You can also download copies of the petitions to the Democratic Party to get as many signatures as possible. The goal is to present a million signatures to the Democratic Party Platform Committee when they meet in June, before the convention. And please pass this along to others. http://www.kucinich.us/petitions Enter your input at The DNC's Platform Comments Page Democratic National Committee's Interactive Platform Page The Democratic Party has a long and proud history of representing and protecting the interests of working Americans and guaranteeing personal liberties for all. One of the places we articulate our beliefs is in the Party's National Platform, adopted every four years by the Delegates at the National Convention. Over the next two months, the Democratic Party will draft its Platform. Now is your chance to make your voice heard. Start by picking your section and issue first and then tell us what you think should be included in the Platform. All entries will be read carefully, and some will even appear in the 2004 Platform. "SEND THIS ARTICLE TO A REPUBLICAN!" By Way of Deception By Stuart Klawans, The Nation, June 24, 2004 Not the judgment of film critics but the passage of time will decide whether Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 can change the world. Change, of course, is the whole purpose. Whatever satisfaction Moore derives from his ever-mounting income and awards, he clearly will consider this picture a success only if it helps drive George W. Bush from office. Voters will write the real review. I can merely fill time until November, with the thought that Fahrenheit 9/11 might be interesting as a movie after it has done its work as politics. As with any good polemic -- and this is an excellent one -- you sit in the theater thinking of how someone else would respond, some imaginary "undecided" in a swing state, or perhaps your Uncle Max the Republican...
