Rory Perry's Weblog Law, technology, and the courts Value of appellate insight I spoke to a financial analyst on the phone for an hour this afternoon, answering procedural questions about a possible appeal by WV's Attorney General regarding a proposed $1.6 billion buyout of a state water utility by overseas interests. I answered several procedural questions about timelines for consideration of stays, etc. I'm always glad to help -- I realize that the minutiae of appellate practice needs to be spelled out, put in plain language. But answering any question about potential litigation can be perilous; I can't predict outcomes or give legal advice. From a Clerk's perspective, however, the value of appellate insight is in the sharing, prompting better lawyering, better public understanding, and, hopefully, a smoother process for all concerned. 5:10:03 PM [Permanent Link]
