Email, RSS, and Aggregators
Paolo mentioned a feature I've seen on Yahoo groups before, but never paid much attention to. Apparently you can subscribe to an rss feed of a group. How nice would it be if we had aggregators that were a little more powerful? Personally I'd love to get every piece of mail, news, etc through my aggregator and be able to more or less drag and drop permalinks to posts. It's all info I want to consume anyhow, why shouldn't it all be represented the same way in the same place? Here's an idea for moving towards this: Mail -> RSS. It seems like with all the python, perl, php, etc libraries out there it should be possible to write an email client who's sole purpose is to consume email and generate rss from it. Doesn't sound too difficult to me (then again I've never tried to write a mail client =) Of course for this to be really helpful I'd want my aggregator to recognize message threads and maybe even permalinks or something to recognize a kind of blogthread.
