Mozilla is coming... Everybody and his cousin's weblog is talking about it. Not surprisingly, Jon's comment is most interesting. One's got to admire his perseverance, he really believes in the World Writable Web.
Jon, does Mozilla 0.9.9's HTML composer work with the news client as well ? I haven't checked yet (still using IE for OS X). If it does, let's celebrate by convincing the Dobbs guys to enable Byte forums' Jive NNTP gateway :-) |

The quest for a search engine s l a m is supposed to be a knowledge management weblog about site and system administration. I can't imagine a knowledge management tool without a search facility. This translates to a search form accessible on the published public version of s l a m. Dave points out that Google is so good these days that it can be relied upon to index one's weblog public site on a regular basis. That may be true for his blog, which everyone links to, but I've observed it's not adequate for a lowkey startup blog, with a still confidential audience like s l a m. So I started on my quest of a viable alternative - I needn't feel alone there, as a search of the radio-userland discussion group over at Yahoo for weblog search soon proved. I've currently settled on the free trial service provided by Atomz. I like the way I can customize the search result template for better visual integration in s l a m. Try it now on the left pane, below the navigation links. I've also read good feedback for Webinator and PicoSearch.
For a local search, accessible from the desktop part of Radio, the search tool included in Mark Paschal's kit is the way to go. |
