Radio Community Server: better than a free lunch ! I can hardly believe it, UserLand has released RCS 1.0 today (on schedule), for $0 = absolutely no cost = free ! Dave Winer wrote today :
We did a lot of listening, and while we had a price in mind when we first announced "Under $1000," we eventually changed our mind. Our goal is to sell lots of Radio and Frontier. RCS should drive sales of both products. We decided we'd do better financially and strategically if we did not put a price on RCS. So it will be available at no cost to licensees of Frontier and Radio. ... Anyway, I guess that conforms to the "Under $1000" commitment, and also to Michael Fraase's "Under $50" critera for a barnstorming new way of working on the Web. I'll be happy if there are a dozen Radio Communities running by the end of March, with more coming in April, May, etc. This is the boldest, most intelligent, confident and generous move I've seen in the software industry for quite some time.
My only concern is that I'll be so busy the next 2 weeks I'll probably won't have time to set-up a server and help meet Dave's expectations. |
