Radio title saga: happy end

Radio's new RSS title feature now seems to be complete. It is now possible to include an optional rss (0.92) title and an optional link with every weblog post.

In the #itemTemplate.txt file, there is now a distinction between an itemTitle macro to render the rss title with its link, and an itemText macro to render the rss description in the HTML version of the post.

The link is rendered in html with a class="weblogItemTitle" attribute, so that its appearance in the weblog page may be customized using cascading style sheets.

The matching rss.xml file has title and link tags in addition to the description tag for each item on the weblog page.

As of tonight's Radio.root update, when one supplies a title but no link, Radio automatically provides the link to the post's permalink (Jon, does this answer your questions ?).

This way, the title is always rendered correctly when displayed in the News aggregator page.

Every day, Radio keeps getting better and better !

Second title test post

This is a second test of a post with an rss title but no link. The Link field in Radio's home page is totally blank. I've deleted the default http:// prefix.

New itemTitle macro

There is now an itemTitle macro that can be included in the #itemTemplate.txt file to render the optional rss title of a post.

This is actually better than relying on a CLASS attribute of the optional link of the post as I described yesterday, specially when the post doesn't include a related link.

It works very well in the rendered weblog. But apparently, it doesn't work yet for the posts rendered in the news aggregator. I've gone to the Radio Discussion group to investigate.

Google-it Macro

Now that we have access to the title optional rss tag in Radio, Dave has released a cool google-it macro to enable a google lookup on the title of every post.

Try it by clicking on the google it link at the end of this post.

Race condition in GNU FileUtils
Race condition in various utilities from fileutils GNU package may cause root user to delete the whole filesystem. [NetSecurity via NewsForge]

This is a potentially nasty one. No packaged fixes published yet by commercial gnu/linux providers.
