If you read Don and Lori's recent post on why IT professionals write open source, you should peruse Robin Miller's NewsForge story on one Mr. Marty (I'm the guy who created "Snort") Roesch. It affords a pretty good look at the steps Marty took in turning his gaming-addition-avoidance-therapy into one of the best IDS tools on the market.
As an aside, we're scheduling a sit down with Marty's CEO, Wayne Jackson to see how Sourcefire (aka Snort) is doing these days. Stay tuned.
