It looks like the new HP has angered a few digirati by not adequately supporting its iPAQ PocketPC product line, so much so in fact that a few of these users have posted a petition designed to shame HP into taking action. According to the petition, which lists over 50 issues surrounding the 3600, 3700, and 3800 series iPAQs, device owners aren't looking for legal action...just a little understanding.
As consumers, we work very hard for our money and choose to spend it on products from companies who deal with us in good faith. Based on the lack of action to fix these defective devices, we have reached the conclusion that HP/Compaq has not dealt with us in good faith. Therefore, the undersigned pledge the following if we do not receive satisfactory response to this petition:
- We have been disappointed with your service, your support has created a false anticipation for solutions that have never materialized, and your deceptive marketing has promised features which are clearly not available. As a result, it is very unlikely that your products will be among those which make it to our shopping lists in the future.
- The signers of this petition will inform everyone they can about the problems that plague these devices and the complete lack of resolution to these problems on the part of HP/Compaq.
- The signers of this petition will inform everyone they can of their conclusion that HP/Compaq knowingly and willingly continues to sell defective products to consumers.
As an iPAQ user, I must agree with the sentiment here. These devices, as cool as they are, have problems. However, I think as both individual customers and representatives of larger firms we must first give a company the chance to do the right thing before taking public action. For me, that consisted of making a few angry phone calls to HP/Compaq regarding a faulty battery. A prepaid shipping box arrived the very next day.
