This Saturday, downtown Anchorage was awash in dogs, mushers, and an absolute mob of people. It could only be one thing - the ceremonial start of the Iditarod - the annual lovefest orgy between dog mushing and its fans.
I was downtown with Jim, Cory, and Isaac. Jim is an old Iditarod pro, Cory attended a start a few years ago and this was Isaac's first time. Isaac and Cory had VIP passes, so they were able to get up close and personal with the dog teams. I wisely handed my camera over to Cory and then Jim and I worked the public side of the ropes down to the start and then back to F Street Station - just in time for our annual 10:00 AM Bloody Mary's!!!!

Here's a team being run up to the start. The teams queue up several blocks away from the start, and then are run up to the start and usually arrive at the start just as their countdown begins.
