It's been a very busy few days here in San Jose. The VON conference has been quite interesting - I've got lots of stuff to ponder.
I have to say that I'm still working my way through the whole Net Neutrality issue. There is so much hyperbole that getting even the most basic understanding of the problem is ridiculously difficult.
On the technical side of things, I've become very enamored with the whole concept of presence. I've been following that space for several years, but within the past 9 months, it's taken off again. It's an incredibly powerful concept and it's going to be one the true touchstones of IMS (probably the most overhyped three letters since the dot com crash). Universal seamless presence will be why IMS truly does matter (not because you can stream video from your cell phone to your computer).
Finally, I slayed what has to be one of my all time favorite geocaches ever: Little Pictures. For an out of towner, I did very well. But after three days of trying and not being able to find the location of the last photograph, I asked the cache owner for help. He very graciously gave me two hints and I was finally able to find that little sucker.
Here's the kicker, I can look out my hotel room window and see the flippin' cache. I won't repeat here what I exclaimed tonight when I looked out my window and realized that for the past three days, I'd been looking directly down on the cache.
This cache was an absolutely great way to become familiar (very familiar) with San Jose's core downtown and its history.
