I've spent the past ten days traveling/flying. I've chatted with fellow travelers, colleagues, and family members - my chat group ran the gamut politically and demographically. But, amazingly, this entire group was in complete and total agreement on one topic:
The new TSA rules banning liquids and gels from carry-ons is beyond ridiculous. Especially considering the caveats allowing gel bras or silicon gel implants on board. Ha!!!
When I flew home from Seattle Monday night, I was a federal criminal - I had purposefully left my tube of carmex lip balm in my pocket.
Another friend who flew last week, smuggled her chapstick through security - and then phoned a friend stating that "the goods had made it through".
This is patently ridiculous. These rules are not good security. They're stupid. They're an ignorant knee-jerk, ill thought out reaction.
And, travelers are now beginning to openly mock security measures. The TSA made a major public relations blunder with this one. For a very long time, I've thought airport security, as currently implemented was reactionary and not proactive - the removal of shoes is a prime example of that sort of policy. But the liquid/gel ban is a whole 'nuther level.
So, read here and here for additional discussion.
