So, the Marriott Buffalo-Niagara: dollar for local phone calls. Cheapest dinner entree 14.95. So no blogging this week.
I saw on Monday that it was the ten year anniversary of the Los Angeles riots. I was telling Dan Gouveia about my experiences at USC, before and after the riots. Of course I trotted out my Pizza Hut story: how I had dreamed of it all freshman year, then it was built my sophomore year only to be burned down. Also the black student jogging around the campus who got shot in the leg. How very little it looked like a race conflict after the first day and how much it looked like people just tearing down their neighborhoods. Koreans standing in front of their stores all machistic and firing their pistols. How the two things everyone knew in Los Angeles before the riots were: avoid the Los Angeles police and never take the buses.
On Tuesday I met with Ron Worley. Installation took a while, and some implementation quirks hit us. Ron Axelrod and Jerry, um, came in. We had fish that night.
On Wednesday, presentation and implementation. Olive Garden lunch. Long afternoon, then Wendy’s. At the hotel I tried out some different settings in Cleaner 5 to crop some music videos that had letterboxing. With a 4:3 ratio, they don’t fit in my TiBook screen without boxing on the sides.
On Thursday, we started to run our scripts. Dan had to leave, his daughter was in surgery for her shunt. I ran some reports and saved them to the directory for Ron to present the next day. I went to the hotel, ate tuna, salmon, and shrimp with garlic potatoes. Then I went to Niagara Falls, some twenty minutes north. Parking was five dollars, but no one collected it. I got there at nine, just as the lights were coming on. The view was fantastic, with the lights cycling. I decided to walk around to the Horseshoe Falls. As it was both night and a winter month, a lot of the flow was throttled back for the hydroelectric plant.
On Friday I flew back. Ack! Forgot to tip the housekeeping staff! It is very windy today.
