After a two-week hiatus I'm back. The next few posts will have my impressions of the 14 days I spent in the US. It feels good to be back home in Switzerland but I wish I had a bit more time in Florida. Like, a few more weeks, maybe.

The first thing I noticed during this trip was the preponderance of patriotic fervor - "God Bless America", "God Bless our Troops" - and flags fluttering from vehicles and buildings. I experienced a few months of Indira Gandhi's notorious emergency period in India when flags of her party and her pictures were omnipresent. I am not claiming that the US is currently experiencing anything similar but then, I did not expect democracy to be cast aside in India prior to it actually taking place. Once it happens, undoing it is not an easy job. Fortunately in India, Indira Gandhi's supreme overconfidence in declaring an election, gave the people a chance to end a dark blot in India's history.
